Let’s explore Liam’s insights on shaping the insurance industry’s future and developing innovative solutions for our clients’ digital transformation journey.

Can you share your journey to becoming a Senior Technical Analyst at Alchemy?

My journey at Alchemy started with a love for technology and a desire to contribute to the insurance industry. I joined as a Technical Analyst in 2018 as part of the first academy at Alchemy. Through my involvement in various projects, I was able to grow professionally and develop my technical skills across a wide range of insurance software. With the expansion of Alchemy to the London Market, I’ve had the opportunity to work across projects based in the UK, the US & the Middle East, which has furthered my understanding of both the technical and business aspects of insurance.

How has working between the London and Derry/Londonderry teams impacted your role?

The collaboration between the London and Derry/Londonderry teams has been instrumental in my professional growth and allowed me to expand my skill set. Working closely with London Market experts, I trained on software like Insureflow and became an SME, which enabled me to configure underwriting and claims solutions for our clients. This exposure also allowed me to share knowledge through technical demos and sessions with other developers.

What are some key milestones in your career at Alchemy?

A major milestone was becoming a Lead Developer on a project with ALM’s partner software, Insureflow, allowing me to contribute to configuring critical systems for underwriting and claims. Additionally, I’ve worked on London Market-related projects that enhanced my understanding of data fields and processes within the insurance industry. Another highlight has been mentoring junior developers and sharing the knowledge I gained from these experiences.

I also spent some time leading an RPA (Robotic Process Automation) development team which delivered automated solutions that would carry out some of the repetitive and time-consuming tasks that would need to be completed on a regular basis, saving the client a lot of time and effort.

How do you see the future of technology shaping the insurance industry?

The future of insurance technology is bright and promising. It is centred on digital transformation, data analytics, and automation. At Alchemy, we are at the forefront of this shift by training on and implementing advanced software systems that address evolving client needs. As insurers embrace these technologies, I believe we’ll see greater efficiencies, improved customer experiences, and enhanced decision-making.

What role has mentorship played in your development and the development of your team?

Mentorship has been key to transferring knowledge and fostering growth within the team. The mentoring programme within Alchemy has been great for me as I have had support and guidance from my own mentor, specifically around promotion panels, which has helped me progress further within Alchemy. I also mentor others on complex systems and participate in training sessions; I’ve seen junior developers and technical analysts confidently take on more responsibilities. This approach creates a collaborative environment where knowledge is shared freely, enhancing the entire team’s skill set and effectiveness.
